Lesson 1.1.4: Construct a perpendicular bisector |
For this lesson there are 11 steps for you to take. Scroll down and do each step one-by-one. The instructions under each step will help clarify exactly what you need to do, so please read all the instructions.

Here is the worksheet for Lesson 1.1.4

|
1.) Video: Targets and Vocab
Watch the video and copy the notes including the Lesson Number, Lesson Title, and Targets. |
|
4.) Video: What is a Perpendicular Bisector
Watch this video and take notes on the definition of a perpendicular bisector. If you don't understand what it is by the end of the video, make sure you raise your hand and ask me for more explanation. |
|
5.) Construct a Perpendicular Bisector: First Attempt Based on the definition you just learned and based on some of the other constructions we've done, I want you to attempt to construct a perpendicular bisector. Draw a segment AB like the image to the right and spend a couple minutes trying to figure out how to construct a perpendicular bisector. I'm not talking about eye balling it, I'm talking about a construction (use a compass and a straightedge). If you can't figure it out after 5 minutes of working on it, check out the next video. |
6.) Video: Constructing a Perpendicular Bisector
|
|
7.) Observation Activity
Look at the figure to the right. Label points C, D, and E on the perpendicular bisector that you constructed. Then read the directions about using your compass to examine the different segments. At the bottom, there is a part called "Observation." Write down the entire sentence in your notes and fill in the blank with the appropriate word. |
8.) Video: Steps and Observations
Watch me as I talk through the steps to construct a perpendicular bisector and talk about the observations from the activity above. |
|
9.) Construct a perpendicular to a line from a point
Copy line L and point A in your notes. Then follow the instructions. You are being asked to find a way to construct a line that is perpendicular to line L AND goes through point A. The first step is given below the image. Take that step first and then come up with the rest on your own. |
10.) Video: Construct a Perpendicular to a Line from a Point
Watch me attempt the above activity. Make sure you write down the steps as the video plays. You should have precise and clear steps for this constructions. |
