Lesson 1.1.2: Construct an equilateral triangle (part 2) |
For this lesson there are 12 steps for you to take. Scroll down and do each step one-by-one. The instructions under each step will help clarify exactly what you need to do, so please read all the instructions.

2.) Construct an Equilateral Triangle
If your neighbor is done with Lesson 1, ask them to use their exit ticket. The exit ticket was to write down a list of steps you need to take to construct an equilateral triangle. If your neighbor is not done with Lesson 1, use the steps I wrote to the right. |

3.) Watch me do it
Watch me construct the equilateral triangle from the step-by-step directions I gave. |

4.) Reflect on better ways to communicate
After reading somebody else's steps and trying to follow them, you should evaluate your own steps. Think about these questions:
After reading somebody else's steps and trying to follow them, you should evaluate your own steps. Think about these questions:
- What kinds of problems did you have as you followed your classmate's directions?
- What are some ways to avoid these problems when writing directions.
- Compare your steps to mine... What was good about mine? What was good about yours?
- What makes good directions?
5.) What do I think? (thanks for asking)
Watch this video to see what I think about "what makes good directions?" |

6.) Construction Challenge
You will need a compass and a straightedge.
You will need a compass and a straightedge.
- Using the skills you have practiced, construct three equilateral triangles, where the first and second triangles share a common side, and the second and third triangles share a common side.
- Clearly and precisely list the steps needed to accomplish this construction. Make sure to use the tips we talked about earlier to make them "clear and precise"
7.) Watch me construct
Watch me try to do the first part of this challenge: the construction. Feel free to put the speed on fast forward in the settings. |
|
8.) Watch me list the steps
Watch me try the second part of the challenge: listing the steps clearly. Feel free to put the speed on fast forward in the settings. |
|
9.) Construction Challenge 2
Here is your second challenge:
Here is your second challenge:
- In your notes, use the skills you have developed in this lesson to construct a regular hexagon (a 6 sided polygon where all sides and angles are congruent)
- Then, clearly and precisely list the steps needed to accomplish this construction.
10.) Watch me construct
Watch me try to do the first part of this challenge: the construction. Feel free to put the speed on fast forward in the settings. |

11.) Watch me list the steps
Watch me try the second part of the challenge: listing the steps clearly. Feel free to put the speed on fast forward in the settings. |
